Peterson Gas Valve Information
For Vented Gas Logs
No gas valve - This option is only available on natural gas.  Choose this option if you already have a gas valve in your fireplace.  This is normally a log lighter valve to light a wood fire.  This option can only be used if a safety pilot is not required by your local code, if you are unsure of your code, we suggest the safety pilot option SPK-26.

Manual gas valve - This option is only available on natural gas.  The AV-18 is a manual gas valve where you use a match to light the fire.  It has an angled steel handle to adjust the flame height for your personal preference.   This option can only be used if a safety pilot is not required by your local code, if you are unsure of your code, we suggest the safety pilot option SPK-26.
 

Safety pilot - This option is available on both natural and propane (LP) gas.  The SPK-26 low profile manual safety pilot kit allows for complete flame height control at the fireplace.  It has a knob to adjust the flame height for your personal preference.  The SPK-26 comes fully assembled and is easy to install, uses no electricity, has heat shielding for greater protection, and includes a built-in safety feature which shuts off gas flow should pilot flame go out. This safety pilot is certified by C.S.A.  Throughput of valve is 115,000 BTUs on natural gas and 186,300 on propane (LP).  For use on natural gas log sets from 12" to 36", and propane (LP) from 12" to 60".

 

Flame control with remote - This option is available on both natural and propane (LP) gas.  The APK-17 automatic safety pilot includes the remote control.  With this gas valve, you can turn the flame on and off, as well as up and down by the included remote control or at the fireplace. The APK-17 is a low profile automatic safety pilot kit uses no electricity and has heat shielding for greater protection.  It includes a built-in safety feature which shuts off gas flow should pilot flame go out. This safety pilot is certified by C.S.A.  For use on natural gas log sets from 12" to 36", and propane (LP) from 12" to 60".

 

Large set automatic pilot with remote - This option is only available on natural gas.  The SPK-26 and APK-17 will not flow enough natural gas for gas log sets 42" to 60".  These large sets use the APK-10.  The APK-10 automatic safety pilot includes the remote control.  With this gas valve, you can turn the flame on and off by the included remote control or at the fireplace.  You can set the flame height to your personal preference at the fireplace.
